Description
NOW Music is proud to present NOW That’s What I Call 60s Pop – a celebration of this incredible decade with 89 fabulous tracks to showcase the era’s cultural explosion. Beginning CD1 with the decade defining ‘Give Peace A Chance’ from one of the biggest cultural icons of the last century – John Lennon (with Yoko Ono). This is fittingly followed by one of the most influential bands of all time – The Who with ‘My Generation’. Three huge hits from Manfred Mann, Gerry & The Pacemakers and Herman’s Hermits follow. Classics from The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown and The Move are included before massive number ones from Zager & Evans and Tom Jones. We close this disc with legendary tracks from icons Marvin Gaye and Nina Simone. Disc 2 features some of the most influential groups of the decade, beginning with Simon & Garfunkel’s massive hit ‘Mrs Robinson’ and including the best of 60s Pop from The Mamas & The Papas, The Flowerpot Men, The Beach Boys, The Monkees and Sonny & Cher. David Bowie’s early ‘The Laughing Gnome’ is celebrated, as is the King, Elvis Presley, with the hugely successful ‘Wooden Heart’. We end this disc with the number one hit ‘Where Do You Go To (My Lovely)’ from Peter Sarstedt. Starting disc 3 with the seven weeks at number one smash – ‘Cathy’s Clown’ from The Everly Brothers, followed by huge hit ‘The Young Ones’ from Cliff Richard & The Shadows. Stevie Wonder’s incredible vocals appear on the smash ‘I Was Made To Love Her’, plus top tracks from The Walker Brothers, Sandie Shaw and Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames. Pop brilliance from Bruce Channel, Billy J. Kramer and Freddie & The Dreamers follows, before finishing with the all-time classic ‘Silence Is Golden’ from The Tremeloes. Disc 4 opens with a fantastic run of legendary R&B/Soul artists and tracks – beginning with ‘River Deep – Mountain High’ from Ike & Tina Turner and continuing with The Supremes, Martha & The Vandellas, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, plus the incredible vocals of Aretha Franklin with her enduring hit ‘Respect’. ‘Everlasting Love’ from Love Affair and ‘Needles And Pins’ from The Searchers give way to another run of UK number ones from The Honeycombs, Tommy Roe, Marmalade and The Scaffold, before ending this hit-packed track list with easy listening gold ‘The Last Waltz’ from Engelbert Humperdinck.
